SYNOPSIS:
The first thing that strikes one about Zlotowski’s film is the aesthetic dictatorship imposed by the face of the protagonist, a young woman who is as restrained and disassociated from her feelings as a character out of Philippe Garrel or Maurice Pialat. An angel whose dream life takes place between motorcycle races, fleeting sexual encounters, challenges to any sort of authority… that is why the film has an air of instant catharsis, when in fact it is no more (and no less) than a romantic plea to peak experiences, to life on the edge. Hence its US circa 1980 aesthetic and the vibrant scent of tragedy that permeates the images to the point of reformulating them… towards something resembling to a modicum of hope. (Alejandro G.
